Mike Burton

Mike has lived in Ruislip since 1985 and is self-taught. He paints predominantly in watercolour and draws mainly in charcoal.

Mike says, for him, watercolour has unique characteristics, including transparency, luminosity and fluidity as well as unpredictability allowing for interesting results. On the other hand, charcoal enables a wide range of expressive marks that allow an emergence of the subject with dramatic contrasts and deep shadows.

Mike said if he were to describe style, he would say it is a realism with an emphasis on atmosphere and mood over detail. He aims for something that would catch your eye from across the room.
