About
As we were founded in 1945, our Society celebrated our 80th anniversary in 2025.
There are approximately forty-five members in our Society at the present time, all local artists, and we like to welcome guests to our monthly meetings. We meet in The Waters Edge, Reservoir Road, Ruislip, HA4 7TY and other local venues, on the fourth Tuesday of each month at 6.45 p.m. At the meetings, we have professional artists demonstrating different styles and media. These demonstrations are always very interesting, informative and entertaining.
During the year, we hold two exhibitions in The Cow Byre, one in the spring and one in the autumn. Some years we also hold a summer exhibition. Every year we like to join in the Combined Arts Exhibition in the Great Barn. We also take part in other indoor and outdoor exhibitions during the year and, if possible, go out for painting days during the summer (when the weather permits!). Also during the winter we hold painting afternoons inside, normally in the Kings College Playing Fields Hall, next to the cafe. We always enjoy the outdoor activities and find it a good opportunity to socialise more with the members of our Society and also members of the public. We have been on outings together – we have been on a river trip to Runnymede and visited National Trust properties. We hope these outings will become regular events.
We hold a Free Art Workshop in Ruislip Manor Library, usually on the last Saturday of the month. This has proved very popular and it is for all ages and abilities and all who come along always enjoy these sessions.
Since 2023, we have held an ongoing exhibition in Vito’s Cafe on Ruislip High Street where we change our paintings over every two to three months. It is a very welcoming venue so we are happy to have our paintings and cards on display there.
We like to be involved in any Hillingdon events, previously ArtsWeek, then Arts Festival (Culture Bite) and Hillingdon Arts in Action, and held Painting Days and Outdoor Exhibitions during that time. We also in the past joined in the Medieval Festival at the Manor Farm Site during August for many years which was always a very lively event, although unfortunately it hasn’t been held since 2015. We also join the Eastcote House Gardens Summer Picnic and Pinner Rotary Village Show each year which are very popular events.
Every year in the autumn/early winter we hold a Quiz Evening and Supper which is popular with our members and their guests.
There are quite a few members who have been with the Society for many years and we are very proud of our excellent artists and their work. Joyce Carpenter, Chairman and Exhibition Secretary, has been with the Society for about thirty years and has been Exhibition Secretary since 1998 and Chairman since April, 2022. Barbara Porket was our Treasurer for ten years and has been with us a long time too. She has now handed her post over to Damon Poole.
As mentioned above, we are always delighted to welcome visitors to our meetings and painting afternoons, and obviously also like to welcome new members.
