Samia is a French-Algerian artist passionate about creative expression. She trained at a Fine Arts school in Algiers. Later she became an art teacher before moving to London, where she continued developing her own artistic style. She was influenced by the Old Masters, “Cézanne, Picasso, Matisse, Braque, Monet, Van Gogh”, and many others. Samia is drawn to Cubism, Impressionism, and Expressionism. These movements, with their emphasis on light, colour, movement, and emotion, have shaped her approach to painting, drawing and abstraction. While Samia can paint realistically, she prefers expressive forms over strict rules of perspective, allowing intuition and emotion to guide her process.
Samia works with pastels, watercolours, charcoal, ink, pencils and acrylic, exploring different textures and compositions to bring depth and energy to her work. Although oil painting remains Samia’s favourite medium, she also practiced sculpture a few years ago and plans to reintegrate it into her artistic practice, as she finds working in three dimensions enriches her understanding of form and space. Art is woven into her daily life, continuously evolving as she experiments with new ideas and techniques.
