Susan was a professional book illustrator, illustrating book jackets and books. She won book jacket of the month.

Later, Susan and her painter husband ran an art department in a school, so that they could have a secure income.

Susan taught fabric collage in Highgate and worked in clay and printmaking. She now mainly paints in oils and watercolours.
