Shamalie Weerasinha

Shamalie has been drawn to the world of art since childhood in Sri Lanka, creating with her hands has always been a natural part of her. From clay work, collages, and textile arts to experimenting with charcoal under the guidance of an art tutor, Shamalie says her creative journey has been full of exploration and discovery.

Through charcoal scribble art, Shamalie began to uncover figures hidden within her lines and that moment of revelation shaped her artistic path. Charcoal quickly became Shamalie’s favourite medium, alongside pastels and acrylics. Her life drawing sessions at Brunel University and Central Saint Martins further deepened her connection with the human form. Since then, Shamalie has continued to work with human figures and occasionally drift into abstracts, expressing emotion and movement through each stroke.
